What happens in our first session?

Counselling supports the process of exploration and change. In the first session, we will begin with establishing what changes you may be seeking and how we might move towards your desired outcome.

There will be some exploration of a history but focus really is on you in the present moment and your reason for seeking wellbeing support. It is an opportunity for both of us to talk about expectations of counselling and also for you to see whether we make a good therapeutic fit.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

No, you don’t. If you desire that, you are welcome to and I am happy to liaise with your primary health provider.

Can I claim sessions on Medicare?

Presently, counselling does not fall under the Medicare Benefits Scheme (MBS). This gives you more anonymity, as whenever rebates are offered, your private information becomes vulnerable. Our sessions do not become a permanent part of your health records.

Can I claim session on private health insurance?

Depending on your private health insurances, refunds are available with but not exclusive to: Bupa, ARHG funds (7 in total). Please check with your health fund as to whether you are eligible for rebates.
